Culture mecca opening in Copenhagen

Ofelia Plads, a new culture centre in the heart of Copenhagen, is getting ready for its grand opening on June 29. The capital’s latest culture hub will offer loads of free events throughout the entire summer season.

Ofelia Plads, a 275-metres long pier, is situated right next to the Royal Playhouse (Skuespilhuset) and just a stones-throw away from Nyhavn and other popular attractions
.
Parking revenue
The construction costs have run up to about 600 million kroner, paid by the Ministry of Culture, the Danish real estate firm Jeudan, and Realdania, a philanthropic association that supports architecture and planning projects.

The venue will host a wide range of free cultural events, such as jazz and opera concerts, theater and ballet performances as well as sports events and festivals.
An important part of the activities will be funded from parking ticket revenue generated from a nearby underground car park.

Jazz, ballet and more
The Royal Theatre will oversee and provide some of the artistic content at the venue, including a summer ballet afternoon on August 20 with excerpts from the upcoming season.

Magnus Restofte, the head of press relations at the Royal Theatre, hopes Ofelia Plads will attract both locals and tourists.
The program for the grand opening includes ballet and dance performances, various concerts, parkour and more.
